ABSTRACT

Objectives: To analyse the relationship of knowledge, anxiety and stress with the practice of coronavirus disease-2019 guidelines among nursing students. Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted in June-July 2020 after approval from the ethics review board of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama, Surabaya, Indonesia, and comprised undergraduate nursing students in their second, third and fourth years of studies at various universities in the East Java region. Data was collected using the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-21 questionnaire. Knowledge about coronavirus disease-2019 guidelines was assessed using a self-developed questionnaire in line with World Health Organisation advisory. Data was analysed using SPSS 25. RESULTS: Of the 227 subjects, 204(90%) were women and 23(10%) were men. The overall mean age was 20.10±1.5888 years. There was no significant association of knowledge, anxiety and stress with the practice of coronavirus disease-2019 guidelines (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Adequate knowledge of coronavirus disease-2019 did not make the nursing students follow the relevant guidelines.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic is turning face-to-face learning into online learning. Online learning is a stressor for students. To deal with stress there are two types an effective coping strategy namely problem focused coping and emotion focused coping. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between stress levels with coping strategies in students. This research is a correlational analytic study through the cross-sectional approach. Measuring stress levels using the questionnaire perceived stress scale and the Coping Strategies Inventory to measure coping strategies. The population in this study was all students of Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery Nahdlatul Ulama University Surabaya. Sample of 132 respondents was selected using purposive sampling technique. The statistical test of research data used the Spearman Ranks Test. The results of statistical tests showed p = 0.001 (p-value <0.05) means that there is a correlation between stress levels and coping strategies among students. The results of this study can be used as a basis for online learning and in choosing coping strategies so that they can improve the quality of learning effectively

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 pandemic makes students studying from home most of all activity had been doing at home it makes students having more time to access the social media to update information and to communicate with others. The aim of this research was to analyze the effect of social media on depression, anxiety and stress and self-esteem among students. The population is nursing students and the research consists of 118 students’ data taken through an online system and using Depression Anxiety Stress Scale Rosenberg Self Esteem and social media using scale. Data was analyzed by a Pearson correlation test and the result showed that social media has an effect on depression, anxiety and stress occurrence (p-value <0.05) and has no effect on self-esteem (>0.05). Using social media has to have screen time to prevent psychosocial problems and social media addiction.
